Alarming footage of a man appearing to ram a woman’s car with a shopping trolley after she repeatedly rejected his advances has sparked anger and concern online.
The video was first posted on TikTok by user maybeimlowclass where it amassed over 1.6 million views, with many calling out the woman in the clip to file a complaint. It can be viewed here.
In the clip, a woman can be seen pushing a shopping cart containing a dog towards a white car, while a man can be heard calling her “shorty”.
“Yes?” she answers. “You’re cute man, what’s up?” can we hear him say. “Can I have your number?”
She politely replies, “Nah, I’m fine” and continues to her car.
Imperturbable, the man continues to ask him questions.
“Are you taken? Do you have a man? Are you single?” he asks.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she replies.
The man continues, asking if she has a Snapchat or Twitter account where he can contact her.
Again, she responds politely, telling him at various intervals “I’m fine” and “no, you can go”.
Even then, the man doesn’t take the word “no” for an answer, continuing to harass the woman as she nears his car.
“What’s up man? Where are you going?” he asks again.
“I’m fine,” she replies.
” I can not talk to you ? he asks, increasingly perplexed by her reluctance to stop and argue.
“I’m fine,” she repeats. “You can go.”
“What’s new?” he asks again. “We here, trying to go to Walmart, what’s going on?”
“I’m fine!” she said, beginning to sound agitated at her inability to heed his pleas.
The man tries to change tack by asking, “Okay, can I come and touch your pooch? You have a cute pooch. Is this your car here? Is this your car here? Is this your car?” That white car?
“Yeah, that’s my fucking car,” she explodes.
Still not hearing her, he asks her if she can give him her Instagram details or her phone number. Each time, she tells him “you can go”.
Seeming to finally get the hint, he begins rolling his shopping cart to the nearby store. “I hate being a girl,” the caption reads as the man suddenly stops. “It’s your car here, isn’t it?” he asks again before ramming the cart into the driver’s door and yelling, “F*** your car.”
The man’s actions in the video have drawn widespread condemnation, with many citing him as an example of the kind of bullying women often face. “Just say no and watch what happens,” Crystal Contreras wrote. “Boys don’t know how to accept rejection.”
“My anxiety went crazy watching this,” yrenma.mc commented. “We can’t even respond to them because they think we’re interested.”
Thisdudemichael said: “I don’t want to see a man stand up for him. That’s what women talk about. She said no. She said it nicely and still got harassed.”
Y11ng noted, “Men really say they are insensitive but throw a tantrum when told no.” Eucalyptus agreed, “Men are too emotional.” Others, like Dancing_Canary, urged the woman filming the video to “press charges”.
Newsweek has contacted MaybeimlowClass for comment.
The incident is yet another reminder of the kinds of situations women face all too regularly.
A 2018 study previously found that 81% of women in the United States have experienced sexual harassment or assault at some point in their lives.
The video surfaced just months after another viral clip which showed a woman being harassed and chased by a man who refused to heed her pleas to leave her alone.
