Collier County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 40-year-old man on Sunday for removing a child from a shopping cart in a Walmart parking lot.
The child’s mother told deputies Enben Moodley, 40, yelled at cashiers and made a scene inside the store on Juliet Boulevard in Collier County. Store workers told deputies that Moodley appeared to be inebriated and had garbled his speech.
Deputies say the child’s mother avoided contact with Moodley by leaving the store. They say Moodley approached her in the parking lot and pulled the 3-year-old out of the basket.
Deputies say Moodley handed over the child after his mother started screaming for help.
Moodley was quickly tracked down by deputies and arrested. The child was not injured.
Moodley faces charges of child abuse and forcible confinement. MPs say they believe it was an isolated incident.
