Man Utd’s Bailly and PSG’s Kehrer jump on West Ham’s shopping list as Dan-Axel Zagadou files

The West Ham defense returned to all-too-familiar ‘bare bones’ territory with Craig Dawson, Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna all on their way back from injuries and tools brought down by Issa Diop.

That leaves only Kurt Zouma as the only fit senior centre-back, with full-back Ben Johnson brought in to plug the hole.

West Ham United have reportedly made a first approach to Paris Saint-Germain for Thilo Kehrer, who has made more than 100 appearances for the French giants since a move from Schalke in 2018.

French media say his salary could be a bit of a hurdle, but he has less than 12 months left on his contract, which could force PSG to cash in.

West Ham transfer expert ExWHUemployee reports that West Ham have several irons in the fire as they seek a centre-back with Bailly and Kehrer high on the club’s most wanted list.

However, former Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou, who is a free agent and was heavily linked with West Ham over the weekend, now looks likely to be sidelined.

ExWHUemployee said on his podcast: “The one I’m going to deny is Zagadou.

“He is a French defender who was released by Dortmund. Alan Nixon in The Sun reported that we were interested in him. I said he was on our radar but we are not close to signing him. C is the case.

“He’s someone we know and maybe consider a little bit, but because of his injury record, he’s not someone we’re chasing.

“Manchester United’s Eric Bailly, this one is definitely worth keeping an eye on. He’s out of favor at Manchester United and was due to join Roma, where Jose Mourinho is the manager. That deal seems to have stalled and we We were looking at the possibility of signing him.

“Ironically he liked Max Cornet’s message about joining West Ham. They are international team-mates for Ivory Coast so it could be a coincidence but it seems a bit strange that after linking him with us he now enjoys things to do with West Ham.

“I was told this weekend that Thilo Kehrer, Bailly and Coady are the three we are really looking for. If we don’t sign them, or even if we do, we will also be looking for left-backs.

“Burnley’s Charlie Taylor, it’s worth watching Burnley because they also have Brownhill who is another player we might be interested in.

“Leicester’s Luke Thomas and Benfica’s Grimaldo are both at Wasserman’s agency, where Warburton has strong ties and where we got Flynn Downes from.

“Borna Sosa is one, but he had Chelsea, although they signed Cucurella, and Man City, so I would be surprised if he came to West Ham.

“We were also interested in Layvin Kurzawa and Abdou Diallo from PSG. If Kehrer doesn’t perform, there’s a chance we’ll ask about those two and see what’s going on there.”
