Shopping list

I am a personal finance expert

THERE might be an ideal shopping list to ease the burden of your grocery bill.

And many Americans will take it any way they can, with the latest inflation rate currently at 8.5%.

In particular, food prices jumped 8.8%.

In a recent TikTok VideoEden Gold, who designed her channel to help young adults, revealed a shopping list that costs around $30.

She gave credit to the budgeting website The frugal little house for the list, which is as follows:

  • Dozen eggs – $1.23
  • Box of Cookies – 49 cents
  • Four pound bag of oranges – $2.49
  • Two pound bag of apples – $1.69
  • 10 flour tortillas – 99 cents
  • 48 oz frozen chicken breast – $5.99
  • One pound ground beef – $3.19

I work at Aldi - my nifty hack will get shoppers cash back on select items

In an undisclosed location, The Frugal House found this listing to cost a total of $29.85 with tax.

However, keep in mind that prices may vary by city and state.

For example, we found a similar listing costing over $42 (before pickup fees) at an Aldi store in New Jersey via Instacart.

“If prices are higher in your area, try to find a similar ingredient cheaper,” the money-saving website wrote.

One thing you might want to try, for example, is buying a bar of cheddar cheese, which you’ll have to shred yourself.

Often, grocery stores charge a premium for pre-prepared products.

For example, we found that a brand of Aldi’s Happy Farms shredded cheddar cheese is $2.85 via Instacart.

Meanwhile, a block of Happy Farms brand cheddar cheese is only $1.55, which is a savings of over $1.

Also, based on my personal experience, I find that cheddar cheese bars tend to taste better after freshly grading it and then adding it to food.

So it’s a win-win and only costs you a few extra minutes in food prep.

If not, how can you save money?

There are of course many other ways to save money when shopping.

One way to do this is to buy private label products.

Using this strategy is said to save shoppers up to 30%.

And if you’re worried about sacrificing the taste of private label products over top brands, you shouldn’t.

Market research by IRi found that 75% of respondents believe the quality of private label items is as good as the country’s leading items, as cited Ramsey Solutions.

Another way to do this is to take advantage of in-store sales such as buy two get one free and buy one get one half price.

Plus, using third-party cashback apps is another great way to go.

Some of the best cashback apps include Rakuten and Ibotta.
