Drink began meeting with the media again on Thursday, this time only with local media. He discussed many topics, ranging from purchases (for transfers) to NIL to injury updates. Let’s check it out, okay?
First, this basket. It only looks for “products” (people) that will be good for many years. None of those dollar store gamblers, y’all.
Drinkwitz: “The job has changed, but that’s what makes it fun.”

Let’s move on.
Regarding injury updates, Daniel Robledo currently has an upper body injury and will be out until mid-October (the week off). Maybe that’s why the Tigers have targeted Baylor DT transfer Josh Landry? As for the good news, Ennis Rakestraw, Martez Manuel, Ky Montgomery and Kris Abrams-Draine are fully cleared for summer workouts. Yay! I feel like Rake has been hurt for years.
Let’s go once more.
According to my pal Max Baker, who’s been freelancing for the KC Star this summer, here’s a list of all the newcomers. It’s a lot. I think I read that there are 40 (!)?!?
As for those already on campus, Drink shared this:
Mizzou players/newcomers are going through what the team calls OTAs this week, similar to NFL off-season workouts.

Prepare them for the future in the NFL… well, some of them anyway!
On to the links!
SIDE NOTE: How about those Celtics, huh? A+ human Jaylen Brown (i.e.) was coached by Cuonzo Martin at Cal. I really just wanted a reason to share my favorite NBA Paint graphic…

- A very special Homecoming visitor? Finebaum may be in town. Also, thanks to DRF for the J-school shoutout. Even though Finebaum’s son has decided not to frequent my beloved workplace, according to Dean Kraxberger.
Drinkwitz says he’s not naive that Sam Horn is going to have a tough future with the upcoming MLB Draft. He said he met Horn’s family and thinks he could have a good future as a two-sport athlete in #Mizzoubut he does not rule out the possibility of a draft.

Other sports Mizzou
- Well done Kim!!!! What a great way to end your softball career!
- An honor and love so deserved that she congratulated her teammates.
- Look at you smarties! Mizzou continues to focus on the STUDENT part of the student-athlete, which I love. On MUTigers.com:
The 3.20 GPA marked the 11e-consecutive semester with an overall or higher GPA of 3.0 and the third consecutive semester above a GPA of 3.20 as a department. In the fall of 2021, student-athletes in the department set a record 3.22 overall GPA.
For Spring 2022, 56 student-athletes received a 4.0 GPA and 332 recorded above a 3.0. Additionally, 201 student-athletes received Dean’s List honors, making this the fifth straight semester with more than 200 Athletic Department members on the Dean’s List.
Top of the list for women’s swimming and diving, with a GPA of 3.72. This is their sixth consecutive semester above a 3.5 and have recorded at least a 3.0 in EVERY semester recorded.
Around the 3.5 range, which is incredible given that these athletes spend so much time working on their athletic craft, are also many women’s sports: golf (3.65), gymnastics (3.49 | 12th consecutive semester above a 3.0), football (3.55), softball (3.46) and tennis (3.65).
Highest GPA among guys? Men’s golf with a GPA of 3.26. I imagine the track GPA was also quite high as they had someone with a 4.0 and 16 on the dean’s list, but their overall numbers weren’t listed.
- Steve Bieser’s team also lights up the classroom.
-
The SEC announced its conference athletics awards on Thursday and SIX Tigers have been honored! Congratulations to: Mitch Weber (discus, first-team All-SEC winner), Georgi Natchez (triple jump), All-Freshman team winners Isabella Sokolova (heptathlon) and Rece Rowan (discus), and members of community service team Mikayla Reed and Christopher Conrad.

- Dr. Gholston worked hard. Lookin good, sir!
- Aidan is moving tomorrow! Having Mr. Shaw on campus is finally a pleasure. Just need to put her star sister in Tigers gear too.
Guess who’s moving in this Saturday morning? Let’s get it! ZIM
