Break and enter: Mayfield Road
Officers responded to Gates Mills Place apartments at around 7pm on June 20 to a report of two unknown male suspects who broke into a mail room and stole a shopping cart full of packages.
The suspects’ vehicle was located, but fled officers, eventually entering Interstate 271.
The suspects were discovered to have entered the mail room by breaking a glass panel on the door. The incident is under investigation.
Theft: Rosebury Courthouse
An 82-year-old resident reported on June 16 that a bracelet and ring, worth $2,000, were missing from her home.
Her friend also filed a similar report in Highland Heights. It was learned that the two women use the same cleaning company.
Two women from the cleaning company were questioned and the incident is still under investigation.
Assault: Maplewood Road
A woman reported on June 17 that her ex-boyfriend had just assaulted her in the Golden Gate Gardens parking lot.
The man left before officers arrived and the woman chose not to pursue the criminal case. She was told how to get a protection order.
Weapons offence: SOM Center Road
Officers conducted a consent search of an occupied vehicle in the parking lot of Coppertree Apartments on June 18 after smelling burnt marijuana. A loaded gun and marijuana were located.
The passenger, a 19-year-old man from Garfield Heights, claimed ownership of the gun. He was charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a defaced firearm and possession of a controlled substance.
The driver, a 19-year-old Beachwood man, was cited for possession of marijuana.
Breach of Protection Order: Marsol Road
A woman reported on June 16 that her boyfriend stole her mobile phone after an argument and fled on foot.
Officers located the 29-year-old Cleveland man in the hallway of an apartment and in possession of the woman’s phone, marijuana and a digital scale. He was later charged with breach of a protective order and possession of drugs.
Stolen vehicle: Marsol Road
A woman reported on June 18 that her vehicle was stolen from the Drake Apartments parking lot. She said it was locked, but she lost the key fob somewhere in the building that day.
Harassment: Mallard Drive
A man reported on June 20 that his ex-wife went to Mayland Towers with three other people to fight his new wife.
The suspects were located and it was learned that they entered an apartment building after tricking a housekeeper with a story about a sick grandmother.
The 22-year-old ex-wife was later charged with aggravated trespassing and telecommunications harassment.
After her release from prison, it was discovered that she was still sending threatening messages to the couple via Facebook using accounts belonging to family members.
Flight: Golden Gate Plaza
A customer left her bill at the Crafty Crab on June 18 after two payment methods were declined and she got into an argument with a manager.
The suspect was identified through her vehicle registration and officers contacted the 40-year-old Cleveland resident. She said she was unable to return to make payment.
A warrant for theft was then issued against his arrest.
Disruption: Route SOM Center
Officers responded to Coppertree Flats around 9pm on June 17 to a report of around 10 people shouting at each other at a barbecue.
When the police arrived, several people were already leaving the scene. The others were fired after officers confirmed everything was fine.
Theft: Mayfield Road
Officers responded to Circle K around 7:30 a.m. on June 19 to a report of a man who entered the store screaming, took a beer, and left the business. They located the man in the area and issued him a trespassing warning.
Suspicion: Mayfield Road
A member of a hockey team reportedly urinated in an alley near the city park on June 18. Officers located a team and advised them all to use the park restroom to relieve themselves.
