Shopping list

A mother’s winter shopping list for her four tweens.

Winter is here, and that means colder weather and even warmer clothes. Yes, you bet I’m immediately adding shopping to my to-do list.

We are super lucky to have a Westfield center just five minutes down the road, and we’re even luckier that with all the options they offer, my tweens are super excited about winter shopping and that makes it so much more fun.

I love that these little shopping sprees have given my kids the chance to forge their own fashion identity, and that’s something so special.

I’m a mum of six (that’s right!) and we have two boys and two girls in that age bracket – all with their own individual tastes. None are the same and that’s how we like it.

During these shopping sprees, I’ve come to understand that shopping for clothes always falls into one of two categories: seasonal “needs” – you know, the basics we all need to get through these cold months – and then there are the seasonal needs. ‘wants’, the things our tweens can certainly do without but will spend the next three months nagging us to get.

We usually find a balance between the two. Compromise is important when shopping with your tween, as you want to make sure they’re dressed warm enough (and not completely freezing), but also that they feel like they’re expressing their individual identity. .

So, to help inspire you – and the tweens under your roof – a little, I’ve put together a list of the winter clothes we’re looking for this season.
